The 30th Annual Meeting of the Cogan Ophthalmic History Society

March 24-26, 2017

                 

The President and Executive Committee members, and our meeting host, John Gittinger, extend a cordial invitation for you to attend the 2017 meeting of the Cogan Society.  The meeting will be held at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston, Massachusetts.

The registration fee for full participants at the meeting is $440.  This includes all members including emeriti, spouses/partners of attendees who wish to attend the general sessions, and other physicians or scientists who will attend the meeting.  The fee for spouses/partners of attendees who wish to attend only the Friday night social hour and the Saturday night dinner, without attending the scientific sessions, is $150.  

For the first time, credit cards can be used for registration fees; if you do not wish to use a credit card for payment, please download the registration form from the website and mail with check (made out to Cogan Ophthalmic History Society) to Christopher Leffler, our treasurer, at 5917 Barnstable Court, Glen Allen, VA 23059.  To transfer funds directly from a bank account, please contact Chris  (chrislefflermd@gmail.com).    Registration must be completed by February 28, 2017; refunds of registration fees will be possible until February 28th; after that time, no refunds can be made.

The Liberty Hotel is the meeting hotel; it is directly across from the Infirmary.  A block of 40 rooms is reserved with the group rate of $289 per night, for one or two persons, not including applicable state and local taxes, currently 14.45%.  After February 17th, reservations will be subject to availability at the standard rates.  Please make your own reservations by calling (617) 224-4000 and ask for reservations under Cogan Society meeting to receive the group rate (group ID:  5610).  Their website is http://www.libertyhotel.com.  After February 17th, call Jenny Jenkins at 617 399-4225 to inquire about rooms still available in our group block.

                 

The meeting schedule will be as follows: 

Friday, March 24th

5:30 P.M. to 7:30 PM: Reception at the Paul S. Russell Museum of Medical History and Innovation, which is a  short walk from the hotel.  Dinner is left to each attendee’s choice. 

Saturday, March 25th

7:00 AM:      Buffet breakfast at the MEEI outside the Meltzer Auditorium on the 3rd Floor

8:00 AM to - 5:00  PM:   Presentations with breaks in the Meltzer Auditorium

                  Lunch will be in the Lank Family Dining Room on the 7th floor of the MEEI.

6:00 PM:  Cocktails and Hors d’oeuvres

7:00 PM:  Dinner

                  The Saturday night reception and banquet will be at the Wyndham Boston Beacon Hill, two

                  blocks down Cambridge Street from the MEEI.   Dr. Joan Miller, Chair of the Department of

                  Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School, will speak on “The Harvard Angiogenesis Story.”

Sunday, March 26th

7:00 AM:  Breakfast at the MEEI

8:00 AM - 1:00 PM:   Business Meeting (Cogan members only) at 8 a.m. followed by presentations

1:00 PM:  Adjournment

 

Abstracts              

To expedite the review of abstracts by the Executive Committee, facilitate the organization of the schedule to inform members when they will be presenting and allow them to arrange their travel plans, and allow careful printing of the meeting program, all titles and at least a partial abstract must be submitted on the following schedule:

November 22, 2016:    abstract submission opens

January 25, 2017:  first round of abstract submissions closes. Submissions received by this date will be given priority in scheduling

February 28th:  final date for submission of abstracts; if all presentation times are already filled, abstracts after this date may be accepted only as poster presentations 

March 10th: all titles and abstracts must be submitted in their final form and the program will be finalized and printed; this will be the final deadline!

Abstracts may either be structured or narrative, per attendee’s choice.  The word limit for abstracts is 300; longer abstracts will be terminated at 300 words in the program.  As in past meetings, presenters will be allowed 15 minutes for their oral presentation with 5 minutes for discussion following each paper.
