COGAN OPHTHALMIC HISTORY SOCIETY MARKS 25TH ANNIVERSARY

Mark your calendars. The Cogan Ophthalmic History Society is celebrating its 25th anniversary at the National Lbrary of Medicine, Bethesda, Maryland/Washington, D.C. on Thursday - Sunday, March 29 - April 1, 2012. Formerly known as the American Ophthalmic History Society, it was renamed after the late David G. Cogan, M.D., Professor and Chairman of Ophthalmology, Harvard Medical School, Boston. The society meets annually to discuss the history of ophthalmology and visual sciences. Two papers within three years qualifies you for membership. See bylaws on the Cogan web site.


Welcome

Welcome to the 25th Anniversary of the Cogan Ophthalmic History Society Meeting. This annual meeting is organized to honor Dr. Cogan and celebrate the silver anniversary of the Cogan Ophthalmic History Society.

We feel privileged to be hosting this special event in DC/Bethesda Thursday March 29-April 1 during the Centennial National Cherry Blossom Festival. The meeting agenda will be sent out in mid February.

Tentative Agenda:

  1. Thursday, March 29 - Evening - Welcoming Reception in the Hyatt Bethesda/Concours Terrace 6-8 PM.
  2. Friday, March 30 - Breakfast provided from 7-8 AM Hyatt in the Concours Terrace. Bus Transportation to the National Library of Medicine Link which is nearby but we will need to go through security check. Meeting to start at 9 AM. in the Lister Hill auditorium on the NIH campus. Lunch provided. Banquet Friday evening 6:30 PM.
  3. Saturday, March 31- Breakfast on your own from 7-8 AM. Meetng all day 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM at the Hyatt Hotel in the Haverford/Baccarat Room. Lunch provided.
  4. Sunday, April 1 - An exhibit for our group and tour of special collections at 11 AM at the Smithsonian Museum. "The Eyes Have It: Rare Books on Ophthalmology and Optics" in the Dibner Library American History Museum by Lila Vekerdy - Head of Special Collections. (Note: There is bag storage facilities at the museum if you are going to the airport after the museum tour.)
