Cogan Ophthalmic Historical
Society Meeting 2011
The 2011 Cogan Ophthalmic History Society meeting will take place April 15-17th in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the City of Brotherly Love. During the American Revolution Philadelphia was a centerpiece of activity relating to the founding of the United States. It was here in Independence Hall that the Declaration of Independence was signed, and where the Constitution was ratified. Among the many national historical sites found in the city are Independence National Historical Park, the Liberty Bell, and the National Constitution Center.
Philadelphia plays home to an astounding collection of museums, artistic venues, and sports teams. The Philadelphia Museum of Art ranks among the top five in the country; one can also visit the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts devoted to American art, the Rodin Museum, the largest collection of work by Auguste Rodin outside of France, and the Mutter Museum in the College of Physicians (where we hope to have the Saturday banquet). The renowned Philadelphia Orchestra makes its home in the Kimmel Center. Philadelphia is home to America’s first zoo, as well as to Fairmount Park, one of the largest park systems within a city in the world. And don’t forget the beloved Phillie’s baseball, Eagles football, and the basketball 76’ers teams.
